When I think of creativity, I see new worlds in the confines of my mind. A realm where reality and wishes melt to produce a new picture. Yet, creativity is often simpler than that. It’s in the shape of our letters when we write, how we set up our morning routines, the jokes we tell to coax a smile. Creativity isn’t only about what we create but how we show up in life.
We often link creativity to talents like singing and dancing, but it goes much deeper—into our way of thinking and problem-solving. Self-awareness guides us to recognize where we’re already being creative. Is it at your job? In your hobbies? In how you interact with your family? It’s essential to identify where creativity flows naturally for you because that’s where your authenticity resides.
If creativity is water, then I’m willing to drown in my imagination. My mind constantly bubbles with ideas I want to write about but can’t always articulate. It’s a reminder that creativity alone isn’t enough. You need to work just as hard to sharpen the skills that serve as an outlet for your creativity. This requires discipline and patience. The more you practice, the better you understand the breadth of your potential. I’ve learned that when you take a small step of faith, God leads you to places where you can take the leap. He’s not only waiting to catch you but to teach you how to glide in the wind.
As you lean into your creativity, the world begins to reveal itself through a lens unique to you. Sometimes, you get to share this vision, building a community around an idea that began as a tiny seed in your mind. But to nurture this seed, you must consider what you’re feeding your thoughts. What are you consuming that triggers inspiration?
Creativity thrives on what we expose our minds to. Writers are often avid readers. Storytellers love to listen. When we consume art with wisdom, it broadens our perspective and influences what we create. Sometimes, seeing someone else’s art gives us permission to step out of our comfort zone. Surround yourself with works that ignite your imagination, not just with what’s popular but with what resonates with your soul.
What does your creativity say about you? Are you showing up authentically? One way to measure this is by finding healing in the creative process itself. More than the outcome, the journey can be a balm to your soul. It smoothens the splintered edges, allowing you to breathe again. No matter what you create, make sure you’d be proud of it even if it were meant only for your eyes. Step out of the impulse to predict how the world will receive it. Create something you genuinely love, and you’ll grapple less with self-doubt because you’re not performing—you’re being true to yourself.
Pray about your creative pursuits. Ask God to plant a desire in your heart that aligns with your purpose. There are countless ways He can guide and redirect you, so don’t be afraid to move forward. Trust the process by acting while staying surrendered to God’s direction. If He says stop, stop. If He says go, go boldly. And if He says wait, trust that the timing is perfect, even when you don’t understand it yet.
Creativity is more than an act—it’s a reflection of the Creator within us. So, show up authentically. Create with intention. And trust that the One who designed you also designed your purpose.

Authenticity – Being true to your own personality, values and spirit, regardless of the pressure that you’re under to act otherwise. You’re honest with yourself and with others, and you take responsibility for your mistakes.
