To be human is to constantly grapple with change. There’s no way around it. Therefore, self-awareness cannot be a destination—it is a lifelong journey. It’s about learning to tune into reality with clarity. You already have the ability to perceive, but like any skill, awareness must be practiced until it becomes second nature. However you choose to sharpen this skill, remember to stay open—open to change, new lessons, mistakes, and growth.
Self-awareness will evolve with you. Different seasons require different tools—mindfulness, journaling, counseling (and prayer, always). Your approach to these tools may change over time. Let it. This is a sign of growth; it means you recognize your needs. Trust that you’ll know what’s beneficial for you in each season.
But with growth comes resistance. Perfectionism will try to creep in, whispering that you must have it all figured out. For a habit formed over the span of years, breaking free from it will take time. Self-awareness isn’t an excuse to criticize yourself—it’s an invitation to know yourself. Where are you going? Are you happy? How’s your relationship with God, yourself, and your loved ones? These questions are meant to enrich your life, not burden you. Don’t let your inner critic, or anyone else, weaponize them against you.
When self-awareness feels overwhelming—pause. Breathe. Sometimes what seems like the problem is just a symptom of something deeper. If you’re struggling with friendships, could it be insecurity? Lack of boundaries? Poor communication? The surface issues are your guides—listen to them. If you’re unsure where to start, write down everything you want to work on, put the ideas in a cup, shake it, and pick one. Focus on that area for a month. Small, consistent steps make the biggest difference.
Let go of the expectation of a grand transformation. Life isn’t a movie with a perfect ending. The journey itself is the reward. Don’t bury your head, waiting until you’re “good enough” to live fully. Integrate love and community into your walk. You are as worthy of them now as you ever will be. Healthy isolation has its place, but don’t use it as an excuse to avoid your fears. Growth is proven in practice.
And through it all—bring your questions, fears, and struggles to God. Sometimes emotions feel too intense to handle, but they are never too much for Him. Jesus invites you to cast your burdens upon Him—so do it. True intimacy with God is built in honesty, not perfection. Let the Potter mold you. Let Him complete the good works He has already begun.
Easier said than done, I know. But words have power. Say it with conviction:
"I am a child of God, on a journey of discovery with a loving Father. He will lead me to my place of abundance."
At times, allowing our flawed, imperfect selves to exist in an unforgiving world feels terrifying. But it is necessary to search our souls again and again. Who better for this journey than Jesus? Let Him bring light into the hidden corners of your soul. Let those wounds breathe. If you’re not ready to share your journey with others, share it with God—He already knows and is eager to help.
With time, self-awareness will become as natural as brushing your teeth or praying before bed. Looking back, I see how much more there is to life—how much I’m learning about adulthood, faith, and standing tall under God’s wings. And I am grateful.
Clap for whatever steps you’ve taken. The Bible tells us not to despise small beginnings. Every chapter of your life matters.
Thank you for being on this journey with me. I hope this isn’t just the end of a series but the beginning of your own adventure. God bless you.
